I hiked Rattlesnake Mountain (1594-ft; near Plymouth, NH) in July 2004. I chance iffy weather and loose -- hence this wet-weather view of Baker Valley. This mountain with its cliff walk would make a fine hike for kids fearless of heights. The best part of the hike occurs at dusk: I see my first black bear in NH, 30 feet up a snag near trailside, chewing on rotten wood. I reach for my camera; but, seeing me, he does a fireman's-pole-slide and disappears in an eye blink. |
