Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata) growing in July at Peabody Town Forest in Pelham, NH

Also at trailside is Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata). Identification clues include alternate, compound, fern-like leaves plus flowers along the stem near leaf axils. In theory this plant does not grow in New Hampshire; but, hey, this forest is pretty close to Massachusetts where it IS known to grow. This plant is also called Sensitive Pea (because the leaves fold together when touched).
