Eastern Forktail (Ischnura verticalis) male damselfly at Mine Falls Park in Nashua, New Hampshire

A damselfly poses for its photograph on a grass stem. From this angle it looks like a stick with eyes. This is a male Eastern Forktail (Ischnura verticalis), distinguished by its two lime-green stripes on the thorax and blue-tipped abdomen. This is our most common damselfly, living near water from mid-May to September.
