This sign at the far end of the bridge is my first indication that
today's hike is going to be harder than anticipated:
The Loop Trail cannot be hiked without waders past the north-end input brook because it's flooded: beavers have been busy here and trail tenders have not kept up. The Snowmobile Trail goes right over the Pond -- can't do that in summer with just hiking boots. So I turn around and go back to my car (via the East Side Trail); then hike up (and back) the other half of the Loop Trail (and find out just how much of the trail is flooded). |
