bushwhack Mount Deception NH

Haircup Moss

I did a solo bushwhack to Mount Deception (3671-ft; White Mountains, NH) in July 2006. I start into the woods off Old Cherry Mountain Road at Campsite 7, going straight to the pointy West Peak and then over the col to the higher East Peak. The route is 4 miles round trip in 5 hours through a normal mix of terrain (good and bad) and a lot of uphill (hey, it's a mountain!). I favor the north shoulder when the going gets thick. In the middle of nowhere, a shaft of sunlight shows off a patch of fruiting Haircup Moss.
