In At Timberline, a Nature Guide to the Mountains of the Northeast is this illustration of
a Mink Frog, with the description:
"Mink Frog, Rana septentrionalis.
Length 2 to 3 inches, resembles green frog but tends to have darker
spots and lacks
cross bands on hind legs. Voice a rather deep and
rapid 'cut, cut, cut, cut.'
Frequent at low to medium elevations,
especially
at edges of ponds and where lily pads are plentiful.
When handled it emits a musky odor resembling that of a mink."
