On our outgoing-tide canoe journey we pass the wreck of an old wooden ship. Careful timing with the tides allows us to flow "down river" on both our outgoing and return trips. Peak tidal currents exceed 6 knots in the narrows -- impossible to canoe against (I have even seen navigation buoys completely submerged).
